Before & After

Why Should You Get SmartLipo?

Liposuction is an effective way to eliminate fat deposits that refuse to go away with exercise and diet. Some parts of your body just won't slim down, typically when the body has a genetic predisposition to store stubborn fat in these areas. By removing the stubborn fat cells that don’t respond to regular exercise and responsible dietary habits, SmartLipo in NYC at Allure Plastic Surgery can allow you to enjoy a slimmer body, with perfect contours that enhance your appearance.

Liposuction is an effective way to remove stubborn fat from the following areas:

  • Stomach
  • Hips
  • Inner & Outer Thighs
  • Buttocks
  • Knees
  • Arms
  • Chin
  • Love Handles

Are You A Good Candidate For Liposuction?

Even though there is no "right age" for being a liposuction candidate, older patients struggling with excess fat and loss of skin elasticity might not have results as good as a younger patient would. Otherwise, this surgical procedure is appropriate for both women and men. The ideal candidate is just slightly above average weight and not overly obese.

It's important for a liposuction patient to have realistic expectations for the surgery results. Remember, this is not a method of weight loss and cannot be used to counter the effects of obesity. It can only be used to treat fat in areas that are resistant to exercise and diet, and are disproportional with the rest of the body features.

Patients with cellulite might also not be good candidates due to the skin quality in those areas. Before your procedure, a member of our board-certified surgical staff will set up an in-person consultation with you, to walk you through everything you need to know and answer any questions you might have.

SmartLipo MPX Laser Body Sculpting

Our Smartlipo MPX Laser Body Sculpting Workstation is ideal for the treatment of small areas of localized fat deposits, especially those with lax overlying skin. An added bonus to its fat-melting power is the ability for the Multiplex technology to coagulate and tighten tissue, while also stimulating collagen production to help your body look its best.

How Is Liposuction Performed?

Liposuction and body contouring at our AAAHC-accredited Staten Island, NYC facility is relatively simple, and usually takes less than two hours. You’ll be given an anesthetic upon your arrival, with the type of anesthetic depending on factors like your body type, the type of liposuction you'll be getting, and the total volume of fat that is to be removed. The anesthetic may be local or general.

The surgeon will make tiny incisions in the surgical site, before flushing it with a sterile solution to minimize bleeding. With a tube-like device known as a cannula, your surgeon will loosen the fat deposits in the treatment area, before suctioning them out either from a syringe attached to the cannula or with a vacuum-like device.

In some cases, the cannula is attached to a small motor that makes the vacillation procedure more convenient. Vacillation, also known as power-assisted liposuction, helps with the breaking up of the fat. Your surgeon may also choose to use laser or ultrasonic waves to break down the fat, before using the cannula to finally remove it.

Liposuction, when performed correctly, is extremely safe. Your safety is our utmost concern and extreme caution and attention to detail is given to each and every procedure performed at our facilities. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out, and set up an in-person consultation today.

Types of Liposuction

  • Tumescent Liposuction: Infused fluid breaks down fat, assisting with removal.
  • Ultrasonic Liposuction: Transmitted pressure waves penetrate the skin to dissolve fat for easier elimination and removal.
  • Laser Liposuction (SmartLipo): The heat of the laser probe liquefies fat, making the removal process easier, thereby speeding up recovery.

What to Expect After Your Procedure

Once the surgery is over, you’ll be taken to a recovery room, where the doctors will place a compression garment over the surgical site, allowing your skin to settle and tighten over the treatment area. If needed, you’ll also be given a drain to help with fluid buildup, which will then be removed naturally in a few days. You may even go home the same day, if you had your liposuction on an outpatient basis.

After your surgery, you’ll likely feel some minor discomfort or a mild burning sensation and will be prescribed painkillers to help you deal with any postoperative pain. Although bruising and swelling is often present following surgery, pain is typically minimal. It's natural to experience some amount of pain and soreness in the area, which some say is quite similar to the soreness caused by working out.

Bruising and swelling usually dissipate after around a week, and most patients can go back to work and resume their regular activities within seven to 10 days of their procedure. You’ll be advised to keep the compression garment on until your surgeon tells you to remove it, and should also take care to avoid any rigorous activity during the recovery period.

SmartLipo FAQ

When can I expect to see the results of my surgery?

It may take some time for the effects of liposuction to become visible, due to post-operative swelling, as the tissues may continue to shift while the skin continues to tighten for a couple of weeks after surgery. While the effects of liposuction are permanent, meaning the fat cells removed from the area of your body will not grow back, undergoing this procedure does not mean that you will not gain weight, so proper exercise and diet are of essence after the surgery has successfully taken place. Permanent improvement can be seen as the skin tightens but expectations should be reasonable. Liposuction alone cannot transform a very heavy midsection into a sculpted abdomen. However, combining liposuction with a healthy diet and regular exercise has the potential to make an extreme improvement in your physique.

Are there any risks with this procedure?

Liposuction is one of the most common and popular plastic surgery procedures performed in America, which means complications are extremely rare. Some risks — such as bleeding, allergic reaction to anesthesia, changes in skin sensation, and others — are minimized by our commitment to the most state-of-the-art technology and the latest surgical procedures. Surgeons who are up to date with the latest plastic surgery techniques will ensure the procedure goes smoothly and you get satisfactory results with a minimal time of recovery. If you are opposed to surgery, you might consider CoolSculptingⓇ, which is a non surgical reduction of fat by freezing the desired area . While it isn’t a replacement for liposuction, CoolSculpting does make favorable enhancements over time.

Can SmartLipo take two inches off my arms?

Smart Liposuction (SmartLipo) can definitely be used for upper arm improvement. SmartLipo is designed for smaller areas of the body that require contouring, so while we can’t guarantee the removal of two full inches without an examination, we can say that great improvement is typical. SmartLipo does not create any scarring, and its total cost tends to start around $3,500, depending on the treatment area. For an exact price and specific details regarding a customized procedure, schedule a consultation with one of the highly-qualified plastic surgeons at Allure Plastic Surgery, in Staten Island, NYC.

Should I get SmartLipo on my lower abs for a second time or a mini-tummy tuck?

We can see that you have great postoperative results however, the lower abdominal area usually requires a tummy tuck to tighten its muscles and remove loose skin. The only way to determine exactly what needs to be done is to complete a thorough examination with a plastic surgeon during consultation.

If you’ve been feeling frustrated by stubborn pockets of fat that just won’t go away, even with the most rigorous diet and regular exercise, SmartLipo at NYC and Staten Island's Allure Plastic Surgery might be the option for you.
