A wide variety of dermal fillers are on the market today. Each one promises wrinkle-erasing capabilities. At Allure Plastic Surgery, we offer a number of dermal fillers, including Juvederm®, Restylane®, Radiesse®, Voluma®, Bellafil®, Sculptra®, blood infusions — each of which can walk back the signs of aging and create a more youthful experience, without the need for an invasive surgical procedure.

At Allure Plastic Surgery in New York, we can assure our patients that we only use products and procedures that have been proven to be safe through extensive testing. If you have questions about the fillers we use, please call us at (646) 844-5683 today.

What Are the Benefits of Dermal Fillers?

As we age, fat volume diminishes in our face and cheeks begin to droop. This increases the prominence of nasolabial folds and drool lines and makes you look aged.

Like BOTOX® Cosmetic, dermal fillers are a quick and painless way to restore youth and beauty to your face. We use a variety of fillers in our office, and we can select the right one to help with your wrinkle reduction.

Injectable dermal fillers are used to plump the creases between your nose and lips (nasolabial folds or laugh lines) and between your lips and chin (labiomandibular folds or drool lines). They can help with any of the following issues:

  • Fine lines
  • Wrinkles
  • Laugh lines
  • “Marionette” lines
  • Lost Elasticity
  • Sagging Skin

Juvederm, Bellatero®, Restylane, Voluma, Bellafil, Blood Infusion

Made from hyaluronic acid, a substance that occurs naturally in the skin, these products can add plumpness to both nasolabial folds and labiomandibular folds. They can decrease the appearance of wrinkles in other parts of your face too, such as around the lips and under the eye in the tear trough.

Results last from six to eight months.

Questions About Juvederm® Facial Filler

I’m having severe neurological symptoms after Juvederm. What should I do?

It’s highly unlikely that Juvederm injections are behind neurological symptoms. The substance is completely natural and has no effect on the nerves. Possible side effects include bruising, and possible skin problems such as skin loss (in an extreme situation), but nothing like you are describing. We would say that it’s mandatory to see another physician, and to undergo further testing, which may yield an accurate diagnosis. Make sure to make an appointment immediately and know that these symptoms would not be due to the Juvederm.

What are the pros and cons of Juvederm® when compared to other fillers?

Juvederm is a superior filler, but there are many other procedures that can be performed as well. Radiesse is ideal for plumping the nasolabial folds and lasts for about 12 months, while Juvederm lasts around eight months. Fat injections using your own harvested fat yield an even more permanent result. All of these “filler” procedures deliver immediate improvement.

It’s been 3 days since my Juvederm lip injections and there is barely a difference. Why?

Results from augmentation with Juvederm last anywhere from six to nine months. The results should be immediate and look very natural. Your body will naturally reabsorb the hyaluronic acid as time goes by so subsequent injections are needed to maintain a refreshed look. Your results definitely show improvement, but it’s important to keep in mind that the most important aspect of successful results with plastic surgery is good communication. Therefore, it’s vital that you go revisit your plastic surgeon and restate your desires, and let him decide if additional filler is the answer.

It’s been four years since I had a facelift. I don’t want another one, so what can I do to address the sagging?

An important thing to keep in mind is that as we age, facial volume is lost. This leads to issues such as jowling and folds around the mouth. If you want to avoid surgery, cosmetic procedures that restore volume will help to rejuvenate your look. These alternative options include injectable fillers such as Juvederm and Radiesse. These procedures are affordable, noninvasive and temporary solutions. Fat injections are another option to look into. It is also minimally invasive and only requires local anesthesia to conduct fat harvesting, often from the upper thigh or abdominal area. This fat is then processed and injected into the nasal labial folds over a period of a year to build a nice, lasting improvement. It’s also possible that you might be a good candidate for Sculptra®, which uses a series of injections that, over time, jumpstart your body’s own collagen production.

Radiesse

Made from calcium hydroxyapatite, this substance adds volume to nasolabial folds and labiomandibular folds as well as augmenting your cheeks.

It provides fuller results than Juvederm and can last up to a year.

Questions about Radiesse

Are swelling, bruising and lumpy cheeks and chin following Radiesse injections normal?

It’s very normal for some patients to experience bruising and swelling following their Radiesse injections while other patients may see none at all. Most swelling fades within a day following the injection but if a minor hematoma results, it may take up to two weeks to fade. You may be able to improve such circumstances quicker if you keep your head elevated and use cold compresses. Some redness and possibly slight tenderness is also common in the injection site. It’s best to stay in contact with your surgeon so he/she can address any additional concerns as they arise.

How do you know if you are having an allergic reaction to Radiesse?

Because Radiesse is non-reactive and truly biocompatible, an allergic reaction is not possible. However, there are possible side effects that can occur such as swelling, bruising, mild irritation and redness (may appear to be an allergic reaction) and tenderness. Although a very rare occurrence, if the Radiesse is injected into a blood vessel, it can cause issues with the skin at the injection site. When performing this procedure, make sure to use an experienced physician who uses dermal fillers regularly. If done correctly, the results should be extremely satisfying.

Can Radiesse be used on the nose?

Using Radiesse to sculpt or refine the results of rhinoplasty can yield great results if performed by an experienced rhinoplasty surgeon. Injecting conservative amounts of Radiesse to augment indented areas is cost effective and not as invasive as surgical rhinoplasty. Radiesse injections for the nose cost around $1,000 compared to $7,000 to $10,000 for rhinoplasty. Radiesse is Food and Drug Administration approved for facial wrinkle injections, and can be used as an off-label filler for the nose. Silicone is another option that can also be used to fill small indentations. Consult your facial plastic surgeon in Manhattan to discuss and identify your best options.

Is nasolabial bruising common after Radiesse?

Swelling and bruising, while not very common, are perfectly normal reactions to Radiesse injections. The swelling is typically minor and fades within a day. Bruising, on the other hand, may take a few days to resolve. If you experience bruising and swelling that lasts more than a week, be sure to contact your surgeon to identify the underlying issue.

Before & After

Sculptra

Made from Poly-L-lactic acid, Sculptra® penetrates deep into the skin and replenishes lost collagen. It is best used to fill nasolabial folds, sunken cheeks, and hollow temporal regions.

Results can last for two years after a few injections to build the ideal look.

Questions About Sculptra

I would like an eye lift without using BOTOX Cosmetic or invasive surgery. Could Sculptra do it?

When you say eyelift, it is important to determine if the problem is extra skin over the eyelid, a droopy brow, or a combination of both. If you have primarily excess skin over the lid, then a minor surgical procedure would be needed to correct that. If the brow is droopy then BOTOX Cosmetic can help. If you would rather not have BOTOX Cosmetic or surgery, then fillers in the lateral brow area can help. These would include Sculptra, fat injection, or Radiesse. The best thing to do is see a facial plastic surgeon who specializes in facial rejuvenation.

How will having Sculptra injections in my cheeks change the shape of my face over time?

Sculptra is not an instant miracle; however, it can provide beautiful results over time. Sculptra works gradually to replace collagen that has been lost as a part of the natural aging process. A series of injections performed over the course of a few months can result in rejuvenation that sometimes last for years. While the average number of injections per session is three, it varies from person to person. The effect peaks at about six months. A small touch-up may be needed once a year but not nearly as much as the initial procedure. The success of the treatment relies heavily on the experience of the surgeon injecting the Sculptra.

Will a single Sculptra treatment give me fuller cheeks?

Sculptra is not an instant fix, but does provide nice improvement over time. Since Sculptra jumpstarts collagen production, it’s an excellent option for augmenting flat cheeks. An average of three sessions spread over a period of three months should create enhancement that should last for a couple of years. It is important to seek a physician who is experienced in Sculptra injections and has performed many augmentation procedures using dermal fillers.

Does Sculptra work for sunken cheeks?

Sculptra is an excellent option for augmenting sunken cheeks. And while it is long lasting, it’s not a quick fix. It provides enhancement that improves gradually over time, replacing lost collagen, and recreating a more natural and youthful appearance. An initial treatment requires an average of three sessions and yields results that last for up to two years. Sculptra costs an average of $800 per session. Another good option and alternative to Sculptra is fat injections.

Voluma

As our bodies begin to age we naturally start to lose collagen, which causes skin to sag and lose volume and structure. Juvéderm Voluma is an injectable filler (volumizer) composed of a modified form of hyaluronic acid (HA), which occurs naturally in nearly every cell of the human body - 50% of it contained in our the skin.

Voluma produces a natural-looking result by smoothing out the lines alongside your nose and mouth and replenishing lost facial volume. After treatment your face will have a softer, more youthful appearance. Additionally, Voluma can be used in a non-surgical nose job procedure to correct a droopy tip or a bump along the bridge of your nose.

Bellafil

Bellafil is a semi-permanent filler composed of both collagen and PMMA. Bellafil is used extensively in acne scarring and any indentations or wrinkles where more permanence is desired.

Silicone Fillers

Unlike other dermal fillers, silicone is permanent. It is useful to enhance lips and decrease the appearance of nasolabial folds and labiomandibular folds, but only in small quantities. It is also ideal for filling in "smoker's lines" on the upper lip.

Our microinjection technique allows patients to build their desired level of enhancement gradually until the permanent result is achieved.

Fat Injections

Fat harvested from unwanted places on your own body, such as love handles or abdomen, can be processed for injection to improve your appearance in other areas. Fat injections can be used like any other dermal filler to correct nasolabial folds, labiomandibular folds, hollow cheeks, thin lips, or sunken tear troughs.

Any remaining fat can be frozen and stored for future injections.

Blood Infusion

Can you achieve a healthy, youthful glow to your skin with a firmer and lifted appearance, without any chemicals, drugs, or surgery?

The answer is yes, using your own blood sample.

This treatment is a simple solution that uses your own blood to extract the platelet portion. This part of your blood contains the energy and growth factors to repair damage and stimulate new collagen growth in any part of the body, and works especially well on your skin!

The process is simple and takes about 15 minutes. The rich proteins matrix and growth factors in human blood are isolated using the platelet portion of the serum. In only a few minutes a blood sample is drawn and platelets are set aside. A tiny microneedle is then used to place the blood infusion to the neck, jowls, cheek, forehead, and around the eyes.

Three sessions separated by 2 weeks are recommended. To maintain the lifting and tightening results, twice a year treatments are performed.

Suture Cheek Lift, Mini Cheek Lift, Thread Lift

During a suture cheek lift, we use local anesthesia and thin sutures to reposition cheeks and jowls for a more flattering, more youthful appearance.
