Biography
Dr. Julie Miller is a board-certified ophthalmologist with specialized expertise in eyelid surgery and oculoplastic procedures. Holding both an MD and a PhD from Tulane University School of Medicine, she brings a rare combination of clinical skill and research depth to every procedure she performs.
Education and Training
Born and raised in Jersey City, NJ, Dr. Miller pursued a combined MD/PhD program at Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans – one of the most demanding paths in medical education. After earning both degrees, she completed an internship at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital before returning to New York City for ophthalmology residency at the prestigious Harkness Eye Institute of Columbia Presbyterian Hospital.
At Columbia, Dr. Miller trained under pioneering leaders in ophthalmology, including the inventor of the laser used in refractive surgery. She participated in hundreds of complex ophthalmic cases that most eye surgeons never encounter in their entire careers – experience that built the precision and confidence she brings to eyelid and periorbital procedures today.
Eyelid Surgery Expertise
Dr. Miller’s practice at Allure Plastic Surgery focuses on procedures where ophthalmologic training provides a critical advantage over general cosmetic approaches:
- Upper and lower blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery)
- Droopy eyelid repair (ptosis correction)
- Eyelid lift for both cosmetic and functional improvement
- Brow lift
As an ophthalmologist, Dr. Miller understands the delicate relationship between eyelid structure and eye health – a perspective that ensures her surgical results are not only aesthetically refined but also preserve and improve visual function.
Non-Surgical Rejuvenation
As Director of the APS Non-Invasive Center, Dr. Miller also provides a range of non-surgical rejuvenation treatments, including Botox, dermal fillers, CoolSculpting, Ultherapy, the Vampire Facial, and her own innovative PhatFacial procedure. Her approach to non-surgical treatments draws on her understanding of facial anatomy and tissue biology gained through both her PhD research and clinical practice.
Published Research
Reflecting her dual MD/PhD training, Dr. Miller has contributed to the peer-reviewed medical literature, including:
- “Night Vision Disturbances After Corneal Refractive Surgery” – Survey of Ophthalmology (co-authored with Nancy I. Fan-Paul, Joan Li, and George J. Florakis)
Professional Memberships
- American Academy of Ophthalmology
- American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery
