BOTOX® Cosmetic in New York & Manhattan

BOTOX Cosmetic is one of the most effective and popular treatment options for fine facial lines and wrinkles. For many of our New York area patients, it serves as an excellent alternative to surgery when you are not ready to undergo a full or even mini facelift.

What Is BOTOX?

BOTOX is an FDA-approved injectable treatment primarily for forehead lines and crow’s feet as well as excessive sweating of the underarms and hands. The remarkable substance can actually be used to treat a variety of issues including blepharospasm (spasm of the eyelids), neck and shoulder muscle spasms, chronic migraine, crossed eyes, post-stroke upper limb spasticity, urinary incontinence, overactive bladder, and some bowel issues.

BOTOX is derived from naturally existing compounds that have been purified and refined for injection. BOTOX has been approved for cosmetic uses in 78 countries and is the #1 selling product of its kind in the world. Millions of American have already benefited from the revitalizing effects of this treatment - in fact Botox is the most popular cosmetic surgery treatment. More than 6 million Botox treatments are administered every year.

Before & After

How Does BOTOX Work?

BOTOX works by relaxing the muscles that contract repetitively to cause smile lines, forehead lines, as well as fine lines around the eyes and mouth. The relaxed facial muscles leave you with smoother, more youthful looking skin. Botox is most effective on wrinkles that appear while you’re moving your face, such as when you smile or frown.

BOTOX can help with the following issues:

  • Laugh lines
  • Nasolabial folds
  • Wrinkles
  • Bands on the neck
  • Marionette lines
  • Lost elasticity

Do BOTOX Injections Hurt?

Any injection can hurt of course, but the needles used for Botox injections are extremely small, so pain is minimal. Most patients say that if they feel anything at all, the injections feel like a pinch. The area can optionally be numbed with a topical anesthetic cream or cold pack 10-20 minutes prior to receiving the injections, so you likely will not feel much pain, if any at all.

How do I Prepare for BOTOX Treatment?

Your BOTOX injection specialist will go over the details when it comes to preparing for BOTOX treatments. You should tell your specialist if you've received any type of related injections within the past four months, and be sure to tell your specialist if you take muscle relaxants, sleeping aids or allergy medications. If you take blood thinners, you may need to avoid taking them for several days before receiving your injection in order to reduce your risk of bleeding or bruising (please consult with your doctor before considering this approach). BOTOX should not be used if you are pregnant or are lactating, or if you've had a previous allergic reaction to BOTOX or any of its ingredients.

Are There Side-Effects or Restrictions?

BOTOX injections are generally well tolerated and there are few side effects that are very rare. One of the attractions of BOTOX treatment is that it doesn't require any real downtime or major activity restrictions. There are a few limitations, but BOTOX patients can get back to their usual activities immediately after their treatment.

These limitations are few and include some general recommendations to avoid bending over or manipulating the treatment area for the remainder of the day in order to allow the treatment to fully take. You should avoid lying on your face or generally lying down for a few hours after treatment.

You may also wish to skip your daily workout for similar reasons, and avoid consuming any blood-thinning products (blood thinners, aspirin, alcohol) for a couple of days before and after the procedure (consult your doctor before doing this if you have been prescribed a blood thinner or aspirin regimen).

How Long Does BOTOX Treatment Last?

The quick and simple injections can be performed during your lunch break at one of our accredited New York facilities. The injections take about 10 minutes, although your initial consultation about your treatment goals for skin rejuvenation will take longer.

You will likely notice visible results within the first 24-48 hours and the youthful result for most patients lasts four months.

Contrary to popular belief, you will not lose the ability to show facial expressions when treated by a trained and skilled professional. You will simply look like yourself, only younger!

BOTOX FAQ

How often will I need to get BOTOX® Cosmetic in order to hide my crow’s feet?

BOTOX® Cosmetic is an excellent product and commonly used to reduce “crow’s feet” lines. Provided the BOTOX® Cosmetic is distributed correctly, it generally lasts about 3-4 months the first few injections and may become longer lasting to 4-6 months the more you use it. Be sure you go to someone highly experienced in BOTOX® Cosmetic injections to give the best chance possible of a great result.

Need more BOTOX® Cosmetic in forehead after 6 weeks, shouldn’t it last longer?

BOTOX® Cosmetic usually lasts about 3-4 months. Even though the administration of the BOTOX® Cosmetic should be the same from office to office, there is definitely some variation in how physicians reconstitute it and how long they keep it on the shelf. If you are experiencing movement after 6 weeks then you should speak with your physician about your concerns. Sometimes a touch-up can be performed. If it continues to be a problem, then try a different office. Only rarely does a person metabolize the BOTOX® Cosmetic that quickly, but if the same thing happens at another office, that could be the case.

Is BOTOX® Cosmetic safe to use in my face if I’ve had Bell's palsy?

If you have a history of Bell's palsy and are thinking of getting BOTOX® Cosmetic injections for wrinkles, you should see a physician with a lot of experience with these injections. Oftentimes, the patient will have excessive wrinkling and muscle movement on the unaffected side, and BOTOX® Cosmetic treats this wonderfully. If an area is drooping it may not actually lift it, but weakening of the stronger side could make you look more symmetrical. If an area of the affected side is contracting in a spastic manner, BOTOX® Cosmetic could also improve that as well. It is a safe treatment option as BOTOX® Cosmetic has been around for more than 25 years.
